Weight-In-Motion is a technology for determining the weight of a commercial vehicle without requiring it to stop on a scale. The system uses Automated Vehicle Identification to identify the vehicles and employs technologies that measure the dynamic tyre forces of the moving vehicle and then estimates the corresponding tyre load for a static vehicle. The system may be used in conjunction with Vehicle classification system and ANPR technologies.
Advantages
Increases passenger throughput
Increases roadway capacity
Manage system efficiency
Does not require the vehicle to be stopped
Triggers an alarm if an overweight vehicle is using the roadway
